Flavouring Your Kombucha With Different Teas!

Check the important info on which teas you can use to blend your own unique Kombucha.

As you may noticed from your Kombucha instructions, I use 20% Black and 80% Green Tea. Why? Because I just like it so :) I love the Green Sencha tea and the little bit of Black Assam Tea gives it a slight tangy punch. Love It! You can, of course, create your own magic blend :)

Often I get asked what kind of Tea can be used to brew Kombucha??
Answer: All tea's that are unflavoured AND come from the plant Camellia sinensis. FYI here are some teas that are made from the Camellia sinensis plant: Balck tea, white tea, oolong tea, green tea, pu-er tea and a few more.

If you use any of the above, you are safe.

Can you use other flavoured teas, eg. Hibiscus or rooibos?

Yes BUT please do it only with your spare scoby and with teas that don't have any oils in it (peppermint would not be good) and its best done with a little bit of green or black tea in order to provide the scoby with some caffeine that it needs as a food source.

I hope that his information helps you further on your Kombucha brewing journey!
